Paul E. van der Vet Piet-Hein Speel Nicolaas J.I. Mars April 1995 Abstract The Plinius ontology of ceramic materials covers the conceptualisation of the chemical composition of materials. The design decisions underlying ontology development at our group are discussed. The ontology of ceramic materials is given as a conceptual construction kit, involving several sets of atomic concepts and construction rules for making complex concepts. One of its implementations, that in Ontolingua, is presented. c 1994, 1995 by the authors. This paper has appeared originally in Workshop Notes ECAI'94 Workshop Comparison of Implemented Ontologies, Nicolaas J.I. Mars (ed.), Amsterdam, 1994, pp. 187{205. The authors are indebted to Wilco ter Stal for comments on a former version of this paper, and to Tom Gruber for help with the Ontolingua implementation. Bottom-up construction of ontologies: the case of an ontology of pure substances
Bottom-up construction of ontologies departs from the more usual taxonomic approach to ontology development. It allows for parsimonious speci cation of concepts. De ned concepts are written as compact expressions that allow exible reasoning. Obvious applications include chemistry and engineering design. For such domains, the method enables better ontologies than the taxonomic method. Taxonomic ...
متن کاملApplication of All Ceramic Materials in Dentistry
The daily increase in Patientschr('39') demand for cosmetic treatments has led to dental restorations moving towards the use of all-ceramic materials. The development of all-ceramic restorations over the last decade has revolutionized aesthetic dentistry. Recent advances in ceramic manufacturing and processing methods have led to the evolutionary growth of all-ceramic materials with superior bi...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effect of Pigment and Solvent Components on the Physical Properties of Digital Ink for the Decoration of Ceramic Tiles
The inkjet printing machine was initially used on ceramic parts as a small device in designing and advertising offices limitedly. In recent years, this device has been applied professionally to create high-quality patterns in the industry. In this method, liquid ceramic ink is sprayed on the specified parts by piezoelectric nozzles and after drying and discharging, the organic matter is baked a...
متن کاملBallistic Performance of Hybrid Armor with Ceramic Inserts and Polymeric Matrix for Different Threat Levels (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Ceramic materials due to their high compressive strength and hardness have been one of prime candidates in armor design in particular when high level threads (impact velocity above 600m/s) are involved. The aim of this work is to investigate ballistic impact resistance potential for a target plate with novel ceramic inserts as against ceramic tiles. Two size 98% alumina (AL2O3) base ceramic i...
متن کاملProcessing Capability of Apatite-Mullite Glass-Ceramic Materials for the Production of Dental Restorations
Introduction: There is currently significant interest in all-ceramic dental restorations. A potential non-metallic material for such restorations is an apatite-mullite glass-ceramic that could be processed to shape using different processing techniques. The aim of this study was to assess and evaluate the ability of an apatite-mullite glass-ceramic material to be processed using three routes: l...
